While we’re all for color here at Brit HQ, there’s something so elegant about something that’s simply white. But if you really can’t deal with the lack of color (which we totally understand!), it’s easy enough to recreate this in your favorite bright hue.
The Supplies:
-Several white mugs (as many as you would like to make)
-Painter’s tape
-Spray paint (we used Krylon in Metallic Gold)
-Newspaper for spraying surface
-Optional: tea bags to fill mugs
The Process:
1. Wash mugs to remove any dirt or residue. Dry very well.
2. Cover parts of mug with painter’s tape where you DO NOT want the spray paint to cover. To create the triangle pattern in the picture above, tape 4 upside down triangles from the rim to the base.
3. Cover the rim and inside of the mug with tape to ensure no paint gets on these surfaces.
4. Go outside and place your mug upside down on some newspaper in an open area.
5. Spray mugs in a thin coat from a distance, according to your paint can instructions. Apply a second coat if needed.
6. Allow to dry outside for 10-15 minutes.
7. Remove tape carefully once paint is completely dry. If any paint seeped through just use a sharp knife to scrape it off.
8. Fill mug with tea bags to gift them or enjoy your morning coffee from your new custom color blocked mug.
